November 2010.
Margaret Bishop and I travelled to India for 10 days to present two and three day workshops in Paonta Sahib (thank you Migmar Tsering, principal of he Tibetan Community School, for your hospitality) and at Sarah College near Dharamsala in Northern India, to work with Tibetan teachers in-exile. They are so keen to develop their pedagogy, especially in the area of higher-order thinking skills and have taken to heart their Prime Minister's request for children to be more considered and critical thinkers who will not 'be crazy for all things new'. We had the pleasure of meeting Dr Chok from the Translation Dept who spent three days with us in thew workshops. On our final day we visited a large school in Dharamsala and Margaret gave an impromptu lesson to a Year 4 class, based on her travelling companion, Cooper, a furry kangaroo who was signing up pen-pals for the students of Coopers Creek SS in Brisbane.
We were invited to offer our services by kerry Wright, a tireless advocate and worker for Tibet in exile. She is a former history teacher from NSW who has dedicated the past few years to working with the Tibetans in India. We hope to return in 2012. If any teacher wants to offer their services in India to work with the Tibet in schools, monastries or nunneries, please contact Kerry Wright by email on kerrywright_toshen@yahoo.com.au. She d\be delighted to hear from you and will fill in any details.
